The conference is organised to summarise the project “International Centre of Research Excellence in Transition of COal REgions (ExCORE)”, funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), Project No. BPI/PST/2021/1/00007.

University of Economics in Katowice had a pleasure to coordinate this project, with the irreplaceable participation of our partners: University of Bari Aldo Moro (Italy), University of Verona (Italy), the VSB-Technical University of Ostrava (Czechia), and the Technical University of Kosice (Slovakia).

The main objective of the project was the piloting of the center of research excellence at the University of Economics in Katowice, and further involve the center in animating the international collaboration of young researchers in the projects reflecting the topics in green transition. The conference is an opportunity to present the project outcomes: the CECC, its goals and achievements to date, as well as the research project carried out by our younger colleagues. We gratefully acknowledge the substantial support from our recognised mentors in the project.

The ExCORE project helped to direct our attention to the topic of economics of climate change, which is growing in importance for both academia and practice. We are happy to host distinguished keynote speakers and experts who will share the latest research findings and their experience on the subject. We hope the conference will become a place for the exchange of views and ideas, heated and inspiring debates, and foster new scientific cooperations.
