Prof. Lára Jóhannsdóttir

University of Iceland
Environment and Natural Resources. Faculty of Business Administration

Keynote Speech:

„Businesses a cause, victims, and solution to the climate crisis”

Lára Jóhannsdóttir is a Professor within the Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Graduate Programme at the University of Iceland, situated at the Faculty of Business Administration. Lára Jóhannsdóttir was the academic director of the ENR Programme in 2019 and from 2022-2023 and was the first female Professor situated within the Faculty of Business Administration. Professor Lára Jóhannsdóttir’s research is broadly focused on corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), focusing on the role and responsibility of financial institutions such as insurance companies, responsible investment, environmental and climate change issues, and affairs Arctic. Prior to her academic career, Professor Lára Jóhannsdóttir worked within the Icelandic insurance sector for 14 years, and alongside her Ph.D. studies and early academic career, she was a board member of an Icelandic occupational pension fund for eight years.

„Climate change – you will not negotiate with physics”

Aleksandra Kardaś, PhD, is an atmospheric physicist, Vice-President of the Foundation for Climate Education, and a member of the Committee on the Climate Crisis of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She is editor-in-chief of the Naukaoklimacie.pl website, author of the popular science book „Książka o wodzie ” and co-author of the textbooks „Nauka o klimacie” and „Klimatyczne ABC”. For many years she has been sharing her climate knowledge with the public through science festivals, lectures, online courses and newspaper and online articles.

Dr Thema Monroe-White

Department of Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Data Analytics

Keynote Speech:

„Advancing Science for Society via Race-conscious Algorithmic Approaches”

Dr. Thema Monroe-White is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Data Analytics at Berry College and serves as the Academic Director of the Campbell Center for Data Analytics. As an interdisciplinary scholar, her work explores into the systemic biases that affect the workforce, and educational journeys of racially minoritized groups within science, engineering, and information technology fields. Her research is concerned with understanding the innovative pathways for achieving social and economic justice for minoritized groups via data, algorithmic and AI literacy, STEM education, and entrepreneurship. She holds a Ph.D. in science, technology, and innovation policy from the Georgia Institute of Technology as well as Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology from Howard University.

About the conference

The aim of the conference is to bring together academic researchers to celebrate the International Women’s Day by promoting pluralism in economics, finance and management. We invite submissions from all researchers, regardless of their gender, interested in orthodox and heterodox approaches in their fields. We plan to organize sessions in Polish and in English.

The main focus of the conference is:

ssues of climate change (green finance, sustainable finance, sustainable development etc.)

omen’s perspectives (feminist economics, female leadership etc.)

igital economy (fintech, financial innovation, policies, information, games industry etc.)

Best paper award

Eligibility Requirements

The paper has to be presented during the IWD 2024 conference.
The paper must present original research results and cannot be accepted for publication at the time of submission.
Authors must send their full papers before January 31, 2024 to iwd@uekat.pl indicating in the topic „Submission for the Best Paper Award”.
The jury will announce the decision during the IWD 2024 conference.

Conference fee

The conference fee is 20 EUR (or 100 PLN) for all participants. The fee covers access to all sessions, coffee breaks and lunches. The conference fee should be transferred by February 20, 2024.
